A beautiful and intimate collection of 10 classic hymns featuring one violin and one voice. The album highlights a minimalist approach, focusing on the emotional depth and spiritual power of the music.
“Often one might feel that you need to go bigger and bigger with the production, adding more instruments and more voices to achieve something worthy of these classic hymns,” said Kyle. “But by limiting the arrangements to just my violin and voice, I was hoping to create an intimate encounter with these intimate and powerful texts of faith.”
Kyle drew creative inspiration from Then Sings My Soul: 150 of the World’s Greatest Hymn Stories by Robert J. Morgan when selecting and arranging the hymns.
“Along the way, I wondered if the voice and violin was enough—would it be an effective arrangement?” Kyle said. “Then I came upon the story of ‘All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name.’”
He recounts a powerful story shared in Morgan’s book about missionary E. P. Scott, who, when confronted by a hostile tribe in the Indian subcontinent, began singing and playing his violin. The moment transformed the encounter, ultimately leading to two years of ministry among the tribe.
“If the voice and violin was enough for Scott, then it’s enough for me,” Kyle said. “In my arrangement, you will hear the pause and relief that Scott’s life was being spared. There is a definite shift in mood from there to the end—one of gratitude and jubilation.”
It is my prayer that these songs would encourage, inspire, and point listeners to the enduring truth that love has lifted us -- and continues to do so.
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” -Romans 5:8
